Reverse DNS (PTR) check

The reverse DNS (PTR) is used for proper email delivery. In order to verify your web host has this configured properly, you will want to follow these steps.

WHM -> Server Configuration -> Terminal

1. Enter the following with your IP address:

host 123.123.123.123

You should see something similar to this:

456.456.456.456.in-addr.arpa domain name pointer host.xf2addons.com.

2. Enter the following:

host host.xf2addons.com

You should see something similar to this:

host.xf2addons.com has address 123.123.123.123

Another way to check DNS (PTR) setting.

Enter the following using your forum's IP address:

dig -x 123.123.123.123 +short

You should get back your forum's domain:

host.domain.com.

Enter the following domain for your forum:

dig host.domain.com +short

You should get back your forum's IP address:

123.123.123.123
