YouTube start time disable

A new feature has been added to XF2 which has undesirable effects. If a member copies the YouTube video into a post there's a possibilty the video will not start at the beginning but in the middle.

Do disable this indesirale function you will need to edit your YouTube "BB code media sites" option.

Admin control panel -> Content -> BB code media sites -> YouTube

Default code
Code:
<div class="bbMediaWrapper">
    <div class="bbMediaWrapper-inner">
        <iframe src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/{$id}?wmode=opaque&start={$start}"
                width="560" height="315"
                frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="true"></iframe>
    </div>
</div>
Modified code
Code:
<div class="bbMediaWrapper">
    <div class="bbMediaWrapper-inner">
        <iframe src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/{$id}?wmode=opaque"
                width="560" height="315"
                frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="true"></iframe>
    </div>
</div>

You need to click the Share link below the video on YouTube, you will see this:

You must have a minutes and seconds because minute alone will not work.

There's almost no chance someone would post a youtube video with a time offset by mistake...you have to right click the video and explicitly click copy url at current time:

There are very good reason for doing this. If you want to post a particular clip or relevant part of a long video.

With other social media that ignores the offset, you end up having to remove the preview to force people to click on the link. However, this isn't an option in XF which automatically converts links to embedded videos, therefore there is no way to post the link with the offset as a link (unless you turn off auto embed). This would be extremely bad, sine if you want to post a clip from 20 minutes into a 30 minute video, anyone that clicks the link is going to lose interest and never get to that part.

Correct, but nevertheless it's undesirable because normally we expect a video to start at the beginning, not in the middle, can be confusing.

If I was to bring attention to a particular portion of a video I just add the following text above the video:

"Seek to 1:30 for the good part"

That's like expecting people to set the time on their microwave :). Seems easy, but no one us going to do it. If you are smart enough to be annoyed by this, you are smart enough to know it is doing it and skip back to the beginning. Everyone else will just see the clip you intended them to see and be oblivious they missed the beginning.
